The Practice

An ancient art of universal life energy

The word Reiki joins two Japanese ideas — rei (universal) and ki (life energy). The modern practice was developed by Mikao Usui in 1922, drawing on healing traditions said to reach back many centuries.

Practitioners believe that life energy can grow stagnant where the body holds injury or emotional strain — and that gently encouraging its flow can ease tension, soften pain, and support the body's natural balance, much like acupressure works with the same currents.

It is sometimes called palm healing or hands-on healing: a quiet, non-invasive practice received fully clothed, in calm and comfort.

Settle

We begin with a few quiet breaths. You relax, fully clothed, as the room softens around you.

Attune

Hands rest lightly on or just above the body, moving through a sequence of positions.

Flow

Each position is held for a few minutes. Many feel gentle warmth, tingling, or deep calm.

Questions & Answers

Reiki, answered

Clear answers to the things people most often ask.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on relaxation practice from Japan. The word joins rei (universal) and ki (life energy). A practitioner lightly places their hands on or just above the body to encourage calm and a sense of balance. It was developed by Mikao Usui in 1922.

How long is a Reiki session?

A typical session lasts 60–90 minutes. A first visit is 75 minutes to allow time for a gentle intake and to settle in comfortably.

Does Reiki hurt, and what should I wear?

Reiki is non-invasive and painless. You remain fully clothed and simply rest on a treatment table or sit comfortably while the practitioner's hands rest lightly on or just above the body.

Is Reiki scientifically proven?

Reiki is a complementary practice. Many people report deep relaxation and reduced stress, and some studies suggest possible reductions in pain and anxiety — but high-quality scientific evidence for specific medical benefits is limited. Reiki is not a substitute for medical care.

How much does a Reiki session cost?

Sessions range from $55 to $80: First Visit (75 min) is $65, the Stillwater Session (60 min) is $80, and Distance Reiki (45 min) is $55.

Can I receive Reiki remotely?

Yes. Distance Reiki is a 45-minute session sent to you in your own space, with a live call to open and close and written reflections afterward.

An Honest Note

Complementary, not a substitute

Reiki is a relaxing, complementary practice. People widely report feeling calmer and more at ease, and some studies suggest possible reductions in pain and anxiety. At the same time, high-quality scientific evidence for specific medical benefits remains limited.

Reiki is offered here to support relaxation and wellbeing — alongside, never instead of, the care of qualified medical professionals.

Please continue any treatment prescribed by your doctor, and consult them about your health concerns. Sessions are not medical care, diagnosis, or treatment.
